Bad Boys (1995)
Bad Boys is a 1995 American crime comedy film directed by Michael Bay and starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The screenplay was written by Andrew Noland and George Gallo. The film is loosely based on a true story about Miami Police detectives, Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, who investigate a string of armed robberies.
Plot
The film is set in 1990s Miami, where cops Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey (Martin Lawrence and Will Smith) are assigned to investigate a series of robberies in a neighborhood of rundown apartment complexes. The victims, who are mostly of Hispanic origin, are all gunned down when they try to resist. Marcus and Mike think the robberies are a personal vendetta carried out by an ex-convict named Jules (played by Mickey Rourke), who was released after two years in prison for killing his girlfriend. They confront Jules and a shootout ensues, leaving Jules dead and Mike wounded.
Marcus and Mike discuss the case with their commanding officer and supervisors, who are both skeptical about the case. They travel to Jules' apartment to find evidence that Jules was with his girlfriend the night he committed his first robbery. When they enter the apartment, they find a note that says "you fucked with the wrong guy." As they leave, Marcus says they're going to go after the real robbers.
During a stakeout on Jules' ex-girlfriend, Caroline (Vanessa Hudgens), the robbers break into the apartment building, put Marcus and Mike's car on fire, and kidnap her and the other victim (who is also Marcus's girlfriend). They plan to use her as leverage to get Jules to return their stolen guns. In the end, Marcus and Mike successfully bring Jules' girlfriend home. When they finish interrogating her, they find out that she got away from the robbers at the last minute when she saw Jules shoot a hostage in the head.
